The Yarn is UNpacked

As several folks predicted, unpacking the yarn was a whole lot more fun than packing it up. Since the stash was going into a new size and shape of storage (no more under-the-bed), it needed a slow and careful review. Seems I have a lot more bits and ends of fingering-weight yarn than I had thought. I predict many future projects knit in multiple colors of fingering.

And remember this shawl? Well, there remain an extra 98 grams of the Gems fingering I used for it. Just enough for socks. And not just any socks.

Yep. Cables. This is the Rattlesnake Creek pattern. I love the way the strands wander from one cable to another. But this yarn is very smooth and urban. "Rattlesnake Socks" doesn't strike me as a madly appropriate name for the project. Struggling with alternatives, I've come up with some possible words to incorporate into the name -- 'winding', 'wandering', 'roads', 'highways', and such. Still working on it. Assistance would be welcome. Any ideas?

Ooooh, well, incorporating the whole snales and roads idea quite neatly, you could call them "Snake Pass" socks. The Snake Pass is a twisting, winding country road that takes you to Manchester in the UK. It is a notorious road for accidents in bad weather, but is very popular in the summer with sightseers and tourists, who travel it to take in the breathtaking views of the surrounding hills and valleys, covered in rocks and crags. I've always thought that "Snake Pass" was a lovely name. :)

Ditto on the request for a pic of the full cupboard! I would call the sock a vining clematis-it's the color of the clematis we had when I was growing up and the cables look like the vines and curly ends on the vines! They are beautiful whatever you name them!

The pattern looks very pretty in that yarn--they're perfect for each other. Watch the fit; those cables really snug up the sock.
Congrats on the unpacking. That's a job I don't envy.

Ooh, very cool socks -- I agree, those wandering cables are great. Maybe Long and Winding Road? Or Byroads? Or, Taking the Long Road? OK, I'll stop now. I'm loving that stash cupboard, btw -- great place for yarn!

Me thinks the yarn cupboard is a bit bare. Just saw your book list. Do you recommend the Karen Armstrong? I had it in my hand about a week ago but threw it over for a suspense novel. I could be persuaded....

Lovely socks. I can't help with the name--I'm the one who uses "Sweater #1" and "Sweater #2" (how creative is that?).

Unpacking yarn is probably a lot more fun than unpacking dishes and pots.

What a great cupboard! I'm afraid, thought, that if I could see all my yarn I might feel guilty about buying more!
